Gallagher Re taps top IRB Re exec for LatAm and Caribbean leadership

Global reinsurance broker Gallagher Re has attracted a top executive from Brazilian reinsurer IRB Re to enhance its Latin America and Caribbean team. 

Set to join in early 2024, the senior leader will spearhead its surety and credit practice throughout the region.

Virgil Antonio de Souza will join Gallagher Re’s Latin America and Caribbean team, based in Brazil.

De Souza has more than 20 years of underwriting and surety industry experience. For the past eight years, he worked at IRB(Re), most recently as the Brazil treaty manager with purview over all treaty business for a select client base. He also had responsibility for the surety, credit, financial lines and mortgage books for IRB(Re) in Brazil and internationally, where he led the expansion of IRB’s surety portfolio.

His early professional background includes leading large capital investments as a financial and project manager. He also served as a surety underwriter, growing and managing the portfolios in Latin America for Chubb, Ace and Liberty.
