Lloyd's faces criticism for 'murder insurance'

Lloyd’s of London is facing criticism for providing what some have dubbed “murder insurance” to gun owners across the USA, according to an article in The Times.

Lloyd’s has been accused of providing “murder insurance” to American gun owners, helping them to foot legal bills if they shoot somebody, it says in the article.

The National Rifle Association is promoting on its website a policy, underwritten by Lloyd’s, that covers the legal costs in such cases and promises to pay out up to $1 million for civil suits and $100,000 in criminal cases, according to The Times.

Critics warn that such insurance may lead to more firearms fatalities by offering encouragement to pull the trigger.

Lloyd’s wasn’t immediately available for comment.
