Swiss Re appoints new head of property and specialty

Swiss Re has appointed Mike Mitchell as the head of property and specialty reinsurance to succeed Edouard Schmid who will  assume the group chief underwriting officer (CUO) role at the company.

Currently based in Sydney, Mitchell will relocate to Zurich for his new role, and also serve as a member of the reinsurance executive committee. He is currently the head of property underwriting and property/casualty (P&C) facultative, Asia at Swiss Re.

Mitchell has been with the company since 1997, and has served in various P&C underwriting and client management roles in Singapore and Australia during his tenure.

Swiss Re has recently promoted Schmid to take over as group CUO from Matthias Weber, who has stepped down from the position effective June 30. Schmid will take charge from July 1. He has been with the company since 1991.
