Mapfre Global Risks appoints senior energy underwriter
Mapfre Global Risks (MGR), the unit of global insurance firm Mapfre that specialises in providing insurance solutions for multinationals, has appointed Andrew Malcolm, as a senior energy underwriter.
Malcolm will be focusing on building a portfolio of international onshore oil and gas business within the London market, MGR’s strategic base for growth of its international global risks business, and will report to Greg Harris, UK director.
He joins the firm from XL Group, where he was head of international oil and gas. Prior to that he, he worked as senior underwriter at Swiss Re and as an underwriter at AIG.
Chris Smith, chief market officer for MGR International, said: "Andrew’s hire is part of our ‘Specialty Lines’ strategy for London, developing international portfolios of business in specific areas. This is a key aspect of the plan to grow the MGR portfolio, with international business expected to grow to 25 percent of gross written premiums by 2018, from 17 percent today.
"MGR is strong in energy elsewhere and this is one of the first steps to providing a strong presence in this market in London. To this end Andrew is a great addition to our specialist London underwriting team, with considerable oil and gas experience and a strong reputation in the market.”
