Validus Re poaches Arch Re exec

Validus Re, the reinsurance division of Validus, has appointed James Franson as president of Validus Americas, Validus Re’s US-based managing general agent.

In the newly created position, Franson help expand Validus Re’s domestic reinsurance strategy, which includes the development of a casualty reinsurance business operation.

Franson will be based in the firm’s New York office and will report to Jeff Clements, chief underwriting officer at Validus Re.

He joins from Arch Reinsurance Company, where most recently he served as chief underwriting officer (CUO), responsible for all property and casualty underwriting in the US and Canada.

Kean Driscoll, chief executive officer of Validus Re, said: “Jim’s extensive operational and underwriting experience in the reinsurance business will prove invaluable as Validus Re broadens its US domestic reinsurance strategy and develops its casualty reinsurance business.
