Topsail Re lands McGill, ex-Willis Re pro as chief strategy officer
Cayman islands-based reinsurer Topsail Re has bolstered its leadership with the appointment of a chief strategy officer, president of Topsail Capital Partners, and a seasoned technology professional, as it looks to accelerate innovation and expand its platform by launching new ‘transformative’ partnerships and ventures.
Christopher Miller (pictured left) has joined Topsail Re in a dual role as executive vice president and chief strategy officer of Topsail Re, as well as president of Topsail Capital Partners.
Miller joins Topsail after previously helping to establish and scale the Structured Solutions business within the London boutique intermediary, McGill and Partners. Prior to that, he worked at Willis Re (now Gallagher Re) for more than seven years.
Miller has nearly 25 years of specialised re/insurance experience in solving complex risk and capital challenges. He has extensive expertise working with specialty carriers, MGAs, and insurtech companies on novel solutions that extend well beyond traditional re/insurance.
In his new role, Miller will work collaboratively across Topsail to develop and advance its offering for stakeholders. With respect to Topsail Capital Partners, he will initially be working closely with Tom Gubash and others, “to launch several new transformative partnerships and ventures” to strengthen its capacity, capabilities and solutions.

Additionally, Topsail Re has appointed Joe Ciriano (pictured right) as IT director. He most recently worked for the NC Joint Underwriting Association managing its information security programme and as an infrastructure engineer.
Ciriano said: “I am excited for the opportunity to join Topsail Re and to learn the ins and outs of the reinsurance industry from some of the best. As they continue to expand, I look forward to providing IT support and guidance to the company to ensure Topsail’s IT is aligned with their business strategy.”
