UIB swoops for Marsh, Partner Re talent in London

Re/insurance broker UIB has made two senior hires from Marsh and Partner Re in London.

Carl Smith will join in mid-April as operations director, reporting directly to Shaun Barrington, UIBL CEO. Olivier Carriere joins as a senior risk engineer in UIB’s Engineering Risk Consultants business.

Smith joins from Marsh where he held the role of COO Specialty Practices (2010-2017) and latterly as COO London Markets. Previously, he has served with Cox Insurance as aviation underwriter and head of administration; Sedgwick (broker airlines and general aviation) and with British Insurance and Investment Brokers Association (BIBA).

Carriere has spent his 30 year career within energy insurance as an underwriter and consultant, with particular expertise of the African markets. Prior to running his own consultancy and training business, he spent 10 years as senior upstream and downstream energy underwriter in both Paris, then, London at Partner Re, and downstream energy underwriter in Paris. He preceded these with 14 years at AXA RE, also as senior downstream energy underwriter.
