The tipping point

The tipping point

The tremendous growth in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) market and in particular catastrophe bonds, begs the question: are we close to a tipping point for this asset class?

emma-wilkes-business-manager-at-bnymellon.jpg2013 has already recorded the highest level of cat bond issuance since 2007. We expect total outstandings will soon top $20 billion.

BNY Mellon acts as trustee, paying and collateral agent on both public and private ILS structures. For example, in the public cat bond market we act the trustee on more than 65 percent of issues. Issuers and structurers like our credit rating, our unrivalled experience and expertise and our independence.

We believe that within five years public cat bond outstandings will have surpassed the $50 billion mark. Total ILS will be a multiple of that.
