AEGIS poaches Willis exec

AEGIS has hired Nigel Roberts, the former chief placement officer for Willis’ global specialties unit, in the newly-created role of head of broker relations.

He will report to AEGIS London’s active underwriter, David Croom-Johnson.

In his new role, Roberts will focus on servicing broker requirements and ensuring AEGIS London has access to good business from all its broker counterparts.

Roberts began his insurance career in 1982 at broker Sedgwick, working as an international property broker. In 1985, he moved to work for the David Harman Syndicate (584) at Lloyd’s as assistant underwriter, returning to the broking community in 1990 as managing director of Norman Butcher & Jones. He moved to Aon as managing director of its specialty unit in 2000 before moving to Willis.

He has been a member of the LMBC (now LIIBA) board for many years. He was also a member of the Market Reform Group (now London Market Group).

Croom-Johnson said: “Nigel is a high profile and senior figure in the London market and we are delighted to bring him into our team to focus on further improving our broker relationships. This is a strategic shift for us in London and marks a new chapter in the AEGIS London story.

“We are focussed on servicing our broker requirements and making sure we maintain access to good business from all broker counterparts. Nigel will provide a focal point for these activities and his arrival marks a strategic shift in our approach to engaging with our key broker relationships.

“In future, the market will be determined by the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’ – and we want to be a ‘have’ with secure access to business. Nigel’s use of data and information and unrivalled ability to build relationships points the way forward for the market.”

Roberts said: “I am thrilled to be joining AEGIS London to help them build on what are already strong foundations. I want to ensure that AEGIS London responds to the ever-changing needs of our brokers and clients to solidify AEGIS London’s position in the Lloyd’s marketplace.”
