Allianz Insurance appoints new underwriting director

UK general insurer Allianz has appointed John Berry to the role of director of underwriting and technical, personal lines.

In his new role, Berry will lead the teams responsible for underwriting, pricing and portfolio management across all of Allianz UK personal lines businesses including private car, household, commercial vehicle, animal health and legal protection.

Berry joined Allianz in 2015 as senior retail actuary and was subsequently appointed to the role of head of pricing, personal lines. Prior to that, he worked for both Towers Watson and EMB as senior consultant covering retail lines in the UK and overseas. Berry specialised in pricing, underwriting, product, data and strategy.

"I am pleased to confirm John’s appointment," said chief underwriting officer Neil Clutterbuck. "His experience, underwriting acumen and technical knowledge mean that he is extremely well placed to lead our personal lines technical team as we continue our journey to technical excellence."

Berry commented: "I am delighted to be appointed to this role at a time of significant opportunity for Allianz. We are starting to realise the benefits of our significant investments in data and technology, which will ensure that we can deliver the highest quality of products to our customers at competitive prices."
