AmTrust International Specialty makes key claims team appointments

AmTrust International, the UK and International arm of New York based AmTrust Financial Services, has appointed Tom Maloney as head of claims for AmTrust International Specialty and chief claims officer for AmTrust Europe.

Maloney, based in London, will report to Angel Mas, Specialty Business Unit managing director and CEO, AmTrust Europe, as a member of the International Specialty Executive team. The role is subject to regulatory approval.

Michael Walsh has been appointed delegated claims manager for AmTrust International Specialty. Walsh is expected to join the business in Q1 2020, reporting to Tom Maloney.

Maloney joined AmTrust in 2016 and has been pivotal in the development of the Group Claims Technical and Operation Framework which successfully integrated the Lloyd’s and Company claims platform. He has over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and has worked within leading international broking houses and insurance carriers.

Prior to joining AmTrust, Maloney held leadership and managerial roles with CNA Hardy, Alterra at Lloyd’s Limited, Aon and Marsh. He led the Specialty Division within CNA Hardy where he developed, and was accountable for, the internal claims operating model to ensure compliance with the Lloyd’s Minimum Claims Standards and SOX requirements. With Aon, he had responsibility for the UK and international XOL and fac reinsurance and retro claims portfolios for the Lloyd’s and Company markets.

Walsh has over 20 years’ experience within claims and joins AmTrust International from the Corporation of Lloyd’s where he worked within the claims performance team responsible for the identification and remediation of underperformance across the market. Prior to Lloyd’s, he spent 11 years at a market leading global TPA as claims operations manager.

“Tom’s appointment reflects the talent and depth of expertise that we’re able to draw on within AmTrust International,” said Mas. “In his time here, he has played a fundamental role in shaping our claims management strategy and has implemented many of the initiatives that have helped us establish a claims function widely recognised as one of the best in the specialty insurance industry. His appointment forms a crucial part of our strategic development. Tom will be responsible for creating a claims centre of excellence, with focus on strong technical expertise and driving a customer centric culture.

“Michael brings with him a strong operational and claims background and comes with a wealth of experience within delegated claims. We are looking forward to him joining the team and continuing to drive AmTrust International Specialty Claims forward.”
