AmWINS expands with acquisitions

02-07-2014

AmWINS has acquired non-standard auto insurance managing general agent Cabrillo Pacific Insurance Services and claims and appraisals administrator Tidewater Pacific Adjusters.

AmWINS said the acquisition of Cabrillo and Tidewater, both of which are based in San Diego, expands its existing non-standard auto business into California, one of the largest markets for non-standard auto insurance.

Founded in 2001, Cabrillo has established itself in the California market by specialising in non-standard auto insurance and other personal lines coverages. Cabrillo provides complete policy and claims administration to its insurance company partners, reinsurers, MGAs and independent agents.

Cabrillo and Tidewater will become part of AmWINS’ underwriting division.

Bob Jester, chief executive officer (CEO) of Cabrillo and Tidewater, said: “We’re excited about the opportunity to join the AmWINS family and the opportunity to expand our business and product offerings as a result of the resources that are now available to us through this partnership. AmWINS has established itself as one of the leaders of our industry, and we’re confident that our employees and customers will benefit from this combination.”

M. Steven DeCarlo, CEO of AmWINS, said: “The addition of Cabrillo and Tidewater are an important step in the execution of our strategic plan for AmWINS specialty auto, helping us expand into California, a state which we have targeted for expansion. We are confident that, together, we can capture a number of opportunities for growth that neither of us could have accomplished individually.”
