Arch lines up replacement for retiring CIO

Arch Capital Group has named a new chief investment officer (CIO) to replace W. Preston Hutchings who is retiring from the company later in 2021.

Christine Todd was most recently head of fixed income US for Amundi US and will take up her post as Arch’s CIO on June 7, 2021, subject to regulatory approval. She has over 30 years of experience, having also held executive roles at Neighborly Investments, Standish Mellon Asset Management and Gannett, Welsh & Kotler.

Hutchings will retain a role as senior adviser to assist with special projects.

Todd will report to Marc Grandisson, chief executive officer of Arch Capital. She will be responsible for setting the firm’s investment strategy and managing the day-to-day operations of the investment portfolio.

Grandisson called Todd “a dynamic and strategic investment leader with the experience and expertise to help bring our strong investment team into the next era,” highlighting “her deep understanding of the insurance industry, her ability to lead and develop teams, and her strong ability to collaborate across an organisation.”

Grandisson noted that Hutchings had “assembled a world-class investment team that produced excellent results for our shareholders amid an evolving economic landscape and numerous financial stresses and challenges.”

During Hutchings’ tenure Arch Capital’s investment portfolio grew from $6 billion to over $26 billion.
