Artex shuffles senior ILS and Bermuda leadership in growth push

Artex Risk Solutions, a Bermuda-based global insurance management firm, has made a series of key appointments within its international division.

Scott Cobon has been promoted to managing director of Artex Bermuda, which handles a diverse range of insurance management products, including captives, insurance linked securities (ILS) and commercial structures. Artex said Cobon has been pivotal in the growth of its ILS business. He previously worked as a treaty reinsurance broker in Sydney, Australia and began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in Brisbane.

Cobon replaces Rob Eastham, who is moving into the new role of executive chairman of Artex Bermuda. He has 38 years of experience in the Bermuda ILS and captive insurance industry.

Paul Eaton has been appointed managing director, ILS, with responsibility for driving the strategy, planning and growth of Artex ILS business across all locations. Eaton joined Artex in 2004 after a 13-year career with RSA in various underwriting and management roles. More recently, he headed up Artex’s International business development. Based in Guernsey, he is a director of Artex Guernsey’s ILS cell companies.

Finally, Mike Matthews has joined Artex as commercial director, Artex International. In this newly created role, Matthews will be responsible for the strategy, planning and delivery of growth for the international business. He began his career at AIG, and has over 30 years’ experience in structuring and developing complex and innovative captive insurance solutions.

“These appointments position our team for even greater innovation and growth in the coming years,” said Peter Mullen, CEO of Artex.

Nick Heys, CEO of Artex International, added: “Today’s announcement is a great step forward in our ongoing commitment to succession planning and the continued delivery of a market-leading service to our customers. We are extremely grateful for Rob’s leadership and tenure and delighted that he has agreed to step into an Executive Chairman role, where he can continue to provide guidance and counsel to Artex and our customers. Scott is the natural successor for Rob in this role.

“Paul’s new role fits perfectly into this structure and will allow us to focus attention on ILS products and innovation for which we are already well known. We will also benefit from the substantial experience and knowledge that Mike brings to our team.”
