Aviva joins the Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance

British multinational insurance company Aviva has signed up to the United Nations Net Zero Asset Owners Alliance.

The alliance brings together the world’s biggest pension funds and insurers to commit to net zero emissions in their investment portfolios by 2050. Aviva said it plans to align its investment portfolios with the 1.5°C target set out in 2015 at the Paris Climate Summit.

“Contributing to a more sustainable world is at the heart of our purpose,” said Maurice Tulloch, chief executive officer. “We’re investing with sustainability in mind, are engaging with companies through active stewardship and have been lowering our footprint for some time now.

“We want to accelerate our efforts. It makes good business sense, and it matters to our customers, partners, and the communities we work in. We will continue to make positive changes and are therefore proud to join the Net-Zero Asset Owner Alliance.”
