AXA director and former Swiss Re CEO Stefan Lippe passes

AXA director and former chief executive of the Swiss Re Group Stefan Lippe has passed away.

The re/insurer paid tribute to the senior executive who served on AXA's board for nearly 8 years. Lippe became an AXA director in 2012 and chairman of the AXA audit committee in 2013.

Lippe was a recognised figure in the insurance industry, having spent 30 years of his career with the Swiss Re Group, where he was chief executive officer from 2009 to 2012. After leaving the group, he co-founded Acqupart Holding AG, where he was vice chairman of the board of directors, and Acqufin AG. He also co-founded Paperless (now yes.com AG) where he was chairman of the board of directors. He was also chairman of the board of directors of CelsiusPro AG.

"Lippe was a courteous and warm man. His fellow Board members and the AXA employees who had the privilege of knowing him will always remember his smile and rigor as a mathematician. On behalf of the Board of Directors and the Management Committee of AXA, Denis Duverne and Thomas Buberl express their gratitude and their great appreciation for his many instrumental and decisive contributions to the Group during his 8 years on the Board. They extend their deepest condolences to his family," AXA said in a statement.
