Barbican bolsters financial lines team with Markel hire

Barbican Insurance Group has appointed Antony Hope as class underwriter for directors’ & officers’ (D&O) liability insurance.

Most recently, he was senior underwriter and head of management liability at Markel International. He has over 23 years of industry experience in the financial lines, including deputy class underwriter, D&O at Argo Managing Agency and underwriter, D&O at Dual Corporate Risks.

Reporting to Gavin Stanley, head of financial lines, Hope will work alongside Sarah McGurk, who is also a class underwriter for D&O at Barbican. The financial lines team provides a broad range of insurance solutions for financial and commercial institutions, and professional firms.

Stanley said: “Antony is a proven underwriter who has excelled at developing and building profitable books of business geared towards long-term sustainability. Highly technical in his approach, he prides himself on being able to develop precisely structured coverage for even the most complex of risks. Both Sarah and I look forward to working closely with Antony as we seek to maintain our strong underwriting discipline in the class and develop the right opportunities for a balanced portfolio.”
