Besso CEO steps down amid reshuffle

Colin Marshall, a founding partner and the chief executive of Besso Group, is to step down amid a number of wide ranging changes at the company.

He will be replaced by Howard Green, chairman of Besso Property. Green joined Besso in 1985 and was part of the management buyout that led to the creation of Besso in its present form.

The company has also appointed John Hudson, managing director of Besso Marine, as a director of Besso Limited.

It has made three senior appointments to the board of Besso Insurance Group with Roddy Caxton-Spencer, chairman of Besso International, Robert Dowman, head of Besso Global Casualty and Russell Nichols, head of Besso Global Property, all taking positions.

Colin Bird, chairman and CEO of Besso Insurance Group, said: “Howard is a founding member of Besso and has the experience of building and leading international broking business as well as a wide breadth of client and market relationships which make him extremely well placed to lead Besso into its next phase.

“Roddy, Robert and Russell have all been part of the driving force that has supported Besso's growth over recent years, having been with the company for a combined 50 years. I am pleased to welcome them to the Board and look forward to their ongoing involvement in supporting the growth of the Group.

“These appointments give us the management strength to deliver the ambitious 2020 growth and development goals we have set for the broking group by enabling us to attract the very best talent and to deliver their expertise and service to clients around the world.

“Colin's contribution to the Group over 30 years has been immeasurable, and following the successful closing of the 2014 financial year, he felt it was the right time to take the decision, concomitant with the other recent appointments. I take this opportunity to thank him for his great contribution to Besso over the years and I wish him the very best in the future.”
