BMS expands energy lines with trio of senior hires from Miller/Price Forbes

Specialist re/insurance broker  BMS has strengthened its service offering across up, mid and downstream energy with trio of senior hires from Price Forbes and Miller.

Specialist energy practitioners Alex Collier and Josh Saggers (pictured left) will join as directors and Andrew Vertigan (pictured right) as a senior account handler, effective from May 2023, and commence an expansion of BMS specialisms in North America by working with BMS US marine specialists and completing the circle of service across energy and marine.

Collier has 15 years of energy experience, with a focus on physical damage and liability insurance for upstream energy clients. He joins from Price Forbes & Partners, where he has been executive director of its energy division since 2019. In this role, he designed and placed insurance programmes for exploration and production companies, and service and drilling contractors as well as many midstream and downstream energy risks both in the London and in the international insurance markets .

Vertigan joins BMS with 35 years of experience in the energy sector. Over his career, he has specialised in the independent wholesale specialty space covering downstream energy, renewables, power, marine and majoring in upstream energy for the past 18 years. He joins from Miller Insurance Services where he was most recently an energy account handler. Prior to this, he held a number of leadership positions at Marsh & McLennan Companies and Sedgwick Offshore Resources.

Saggers too has more than 15 years’ experience in broking and advisory. He joins BMS from his most recent role as director at Price Forbes & Partners, where he was responsible for broking a variety of risks into the London, European and Bermudian markets, including upstream, midstream, downstream, marine, general liability, and construction clients. He began his insurance career in RK Harrison’s energy division in 2008.

Based in London, the trio will report to James Chicken, managing director of energy lines at BMS. He said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Andrew, Alex, and Josh to BMS. The arrival of the three greatly strengthens the energy team by adding upstream into our range of core specialisms. Based on their successful personal trading relationships I’ve no doubt that the team will provide a depth of sector expertise for our core retail clients. We are hugely excited to bring strength, depth, expertise and exceptional relationships to this major international market segment.”

Ian Gormley, UK CEO of BMS, added: “BMS takes great pride in our culture of attracting and retaining some of the most talented individuals in the industry. We are thrilled to welcome the extended energy lines team to BMS. Their wealth of knowledge and experience will undoubtedly add immense value to our clients.”
