Brown & Brown snaps up US specialty claims management provider

Insurance broker Brown & Brown has acquired Portland-based Professional Disability Associates (PDA), a disability services company providing specialty claims management services.

PDA has annual revenues of approximately $15 million. Its services include medical file review, vocational services, and claim consulting to major disability insurers, reinsurers and self-insured employers.

Following the deal, the PDA team will continue to operate from their offices in Portland, Maine, under the leadership of its principals Al Helmond and Kevin Riley. PDA leadership will report to Julie Turpin, CEO of The Advocator Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Brown & Brown.

Turpin said: “Like The Advocator Group, Al, Kevin and the PDA team have built a strong presence founded in expertise, sharing business insights and close relationships with clients. This partnership will allow both organizations to deliver service that drives deep and sustained value into carrier, customer and client relationships.”

Helmond added: “We have a great level of respect for The Advocator Group. With the resources that The Advocator Group can make available to us, the PDA team will be able to further enhance the services we provide to our clients. We could not be more excited about this new partnership.”
