Carbon Underwriting poaches claims manager from QIC’s Antares

Specialist independent managing general underwriter (MGU) and Lloyd’s syndicate  Carbon Underwriting has bolstered its claims leadership with a new hire from QIC’s Antares.

Kirsty Coates (pictured) has been appointed claims manager, responsible for managing Carbon’s portfolio of claims and providing specialist knowledge and insights for policyholders.

Coates will manage the data-led claims business plan across all product lines as well as support the senior management team in the execution and delivery of the company’s strategic goals and objectives.

She has over 13 years’ claims experience in the London market and has joined Carbon from Antares Managing Agency (QIC Global) where she was a specialty claims manager with a strong focus on worldwide delegated contracts across multiple product lines. Prior to that, Coates was a claims adjuster with Atrium Underwriting.

Nick Tye, chief executive officer of Carbon, said: “Our priority is to provide a high end, seamless claims experience for our customers – which is particularly important at what is often an extremely difficult time for them – while maintaining our strong track record and reputation for fairness in dealing with every claim.

“We are continually looking to enhance our claims capabilities through a fast and easy-to-use claims process which is underpinned by our market-leading digital technology and quality data. I am delighted that someone of Kirsty’s calibre has joined our team and I know that we will benefit enormously from her wealth of international claims handling experience.”

Coates commented: “One of the things that attracted me to Carbon was the freedom to challenge current processes and help promote change. The claims discipline across our industry is ripe for innovation and transformation by leveraging modern technology and we are taking a lead in this area at Carbon.

“Our proprietary data analytics platform, Graphene, presents an opportunity to collect live data from our coverholders and delegated claims administrators via API links – encouraging superior analysis and oversight of claims data which will help offer speed and efficiency to our claims function and ultimately improve customer experience, and assist our underwriters with making better informed decisions.”
