Committee appointed for Insurance Bill

The House of Lords in the UK has appointed a new special public bill committee on the Insurance Bill.

The committee has 28 days to take oral and written evidence on the issues raised, before amending the Bill if it wishes.

The new bill will update the 100 year-old rules governing contracts between businesses and insurers.

It introduces a more modern legal regime which aims to increase transparency and certainty over the rules that govern contracts between insurers and businesses and reduce the number of legal disputes over time.

Lord Woolf, chairman of the committee, said: “The Insurance Bill will make significant changes to the law governing insurance so it is important that we get the details right. Our committee will consider all the evidence we receive and look at the Bill in great detail to ensure it is going to achieve what is intended.

“We are inviting evidence from anyone with an interest in the Bill. We are working to a tight deadline and have to complete our evidence-taking within 28 days. We are asking therefore that written evidence is sent to us by November
