Developing talent a critical priority for London market, says new LMA Academy chair Matthew Wilson

The Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA) has appointed Brit group CEO Matthew Wilson as new chairman of the LMA Academy committee, and Aspen's Fiona Temple as director.

The LMA Academy provides technical training to support the learning and development needs of Lloyd’s market practitioners.

Temple will take up the full-time role of LMA Academy director after three years at Aspen Insurance Group as global head of talent. Prior to this, she spent more than seven years at Catlin, and has held various senior roles at Linklaters and Morgan Stanley.

Wilson, the LMA’s board sponsor for the London Market Group’s talent strategic initiative, succeeds market veteran Bob Stuchbery in the lead oversight role at the LMA Academy.

“I would like to thank Bob Stuchbery for the many years of service and strong leadership he brought to the Academy during this time," said LMA chief executive Sheila Cameron. "Our incoming Academy chairman, Matthew Wilson, has served as an LMA Board Member since 2011 and is the ideal person to build on Bob’s successes by ensuring that the LMA Academy continues to meet the unique and evolving L&D needs of our members, the Lloyd’s managing agents."

She added: “I am pleased to welcome Fiona Temple to the team. Her broad experience in talent development within insurance, banking, and professional services is an ideal combination to oversee the development and strategic delivery of LMA Academy’s educational offering."

Temple said: “We often hear that the London insurance market faces a talent crisis. That makes this new challenge at the LMA Academy even more exciting for me, since its work has such a wide impact. I am thrilled to be stepping into a new position where my work will support multiple organisations and thousands of individuals.”

Wilson commented: “Developing talent is a critical priority for the market and the LMA Academy plays an important role within this, supporting education and development for professionals of all levels. I look forward to working with Sheila and Fiona to further build on the great work the Academy is already doing."
