ERS names chief actuary as it eyes expansion in new business lines

Specialist insurer  ERS has hired a new chief actuary to support its expansion into new lines of business.

Stavros Martis has 25 years’ experience in the Lloyd’s and international reinsurance markets, having served in a number of in-house and consulting roles. He was most recently a director at Deloitte, leading the actuarial team’s advisory and audit work for Lloyd’s clients.

The hire supports ERS’ expansion into new lines of business, including direct and facultative (D&F) property, marine and energy liability, political risk, terror and war, cargo and specie, professional lines and specialty reinsurance, including aviation and marine.

Peter Bilsby, chief executive officer at ERS, said: “Having gained the necessary approvals from Lloyd’s to write expanded lines of business, we are now ready to execute our plan. Significant actuarial experience in the business is critical to ensure we drive profitable growth and Stavros will provide us with the leadership we need to help successfully plan our course as we deliver against our strategy.”

Martis added: “This is an exciting period for ERS. Having watched the syndicate’s recruitment drive over the last few months, it is clear that Peter Bilsby is recruiting an extremely talented leadership and underwriting team.”
