Former Law Commissioner joins BLM
The former Law Commissioner for commercial and common law has joined risk and insurance law business, BLM, as a consultant.
David Hertzell, whose term came to an end in December 2014, has been a leading force on the implementation of commercial insurance contract reform.
He will work with BLM partners to inform, educate and prepare the firm’s customers in advance of the implementation of the Insurance Act, which is expected to receive Parliamentary approval in spring 2015.
Hertzell is currently the president of the British Insurance Law Association; chair of the CII Professional Standards Board; a member of the Airmic board; and he sat on the audit and risk committee of the Judicial Appointments Committee.
Mike Brown, BLM senior partner, said: “As expected, our customers are eager to engage with David to discuss their understanding of the Insurance Bill. We are thrilled that David will be working exclusively with BLM and that we can add an extra string to our bow when it comes to strengthening our position at the forefront of major developments in insurance law.
“We are also positive that David’s appointment will assist us and our customers to lobby for future developments in other areas of the law.”
Hertzell said: “BLM is ahead of the competition when it comes to profile in the marketplace and the team has led the way in helping to shape the Insurance Bill. Indeed, BLM was the only law firm to provide written evidence to the Lords Committee. I am looking forward to working with BLM and its customers to ensure everyone is ready for the enactment of the Bill this year.”
