Generali hires AIG legal exec for North America business lines

Travel insurance provider Generali Global Assistance, part of the global Generali Group, has hired Tarik Ajami as general counsel and chief compliance officer of all Generali business lines in North America.

Ajami will head all legal and compliance functions for the company's suite of North American businesses, and will report to Chris Carnicelli, CEO Generali Global Assistance, North America in the company's New York City office.

Prior to joining Generali, Ajami served as deputy general counsel at AIG.

"Tarik is a seasoned legal executive whose background aligns perfectly with our organisation," Chris Carnicelli, CEO of Generali Global Assistance, commented. "His experience operating across complex international markets and legal structures within the insurance industry provides our organization with expert insight into all regulatory matters and will enable us to expand our operations with confidence."

Ajami added: "I am thrilled to work at an industry-leading insurance entity and look forward to supporting the team. I'm proud to join the senior management group and help manage Generali Global Assistance's growth in the ever-increasingly complex regulatory landscape."

The company has also announced two additional key hires.

Sven Thorslund has assumed the role of vice president of sales and product strategy, travel assistance at Generali Global Assistance. Thorslund previously served as chief marketing officer at AXA Assistance USA and also worked as the director of business development with Europ Assistance USA, now Generali Global Assistance, from 2004 – 2010.

Charles Hall has been named senior product manager at Generali Global Assistance's travel insurance division. Prior to this, Hall served as a senior product manager at Munich Re's American Modern Insurance Group.
