GFIA refreshes executive committee, elects new president

The Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) has unveiled new appointments to its executive committee, including the election of new president Don Forgeron.

Forgeron, who is president and CEO of the Insurance Bureau of Canada, will take over from Recaredo Arias, who is director general of the Mexican Association of Insurance Companies (AMIS).

Susan Neely, who is the president and CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), will take over Forgeron’s previous role as vice-president.

The new appointments to the ExCo include Bachir Baddou, general manager of the Moroccan Federation of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies, who is appointed GFIA’s treasurer, and Toyonari Sasak, vice chairman of the Life Insurance Association of Japan, as regional representative. Michaela Koller, director general of Insurance Europe, is reappointed as secretary general.

Forgeron commented: “I am deeply honoured to have been appointed as GFIA president. Given the challenges our industry faces, my priority will be to ensure that our voice continues to be heard clearly by global standard setters and international organisations, and that the significant contributions made by our industry to society and the economy are recognised. I also wish to thank Recaredo for his strong leadership and the contribution that he has made to our industry during his mandate as GFIA president.”
