Hamilton enters environmental insurance market with Markel MD

Bermuda-based Hamilton Insurance Group is entering the environmental insurance marketplace with the hiring of former Markel managing director John Termini.

Termini joined last month as US head of environmental insurance and has been focused on building out his team, as well as developing the book of business, leveraging Hamilton's Lloyd’s platform, with the long-term goal of providing a broad range of innovative product offerings to lead the market.

Termini is said to be an expert in the area of professional and environmental risk with over 25 years' experience in the insurance market. He comes to Hamilton from Markel Specialty Insurance Company where he was managing director, environmental & energy, responsible for the management, direction, and profitability of the national environmental and energy liability product lines.

Prior to Markel, he was with Aspen Specialty Insurance Company as vice president, director of environmental liability and oversaw the start-up and management of the national environmental liability underwriting product line.

Termini also previously served as senior vice president, surplus lines broker, professional/environmental specialty at Aon Risk Services, before which, he held various other senior professional/environmental broking roles at Aon, as well as management and underwriting positions at Kemper Insurance Company/Kemper Environmental and AIG Environmental.

“It’s a great time for Hamilton to enter this line, and I’m delighted to welcome John to our team,” said Pina Albo, Hamilton CEO. “I know his extensive experience and expertise will be invaluable as we enter this class of business and, on the heels of our recent mergers and acquisitions division launch, continue to build out our US specialty insurance offerings.”
