Humana takes $800m stake in Kindred homecare business
US healthcare provider Humana is acquiring a 40 percent stake in-home care service provider Kindred Homecare for around $800 million with private equity partners owning the remaining 60 percent.
Humana will be able to acquire the full ownership over the next three to five years after the deal closes, which is expected in summer 2018, according to a CreditSights research note.
Kindred at Home is the largest home health company in the US with around 40,000 caregivers serving about 130,000 patients daily, representing a market share of around 6 percent nationwide.
Kindred at Home currently has an overlap of around 65 percent geographically with Humana’s existing Medicare Advantage membership, CreditSights noted.
