IIS appoints Woodring as chairman

The International Insurance Society (IIS) has elected Greig Woodring, chief executive officer of Reinsurance Group of America as the chairman of its board of directors.

He succeeds Norman Sorensen, the former chief executive of Principal International who has served as chairman of the IIS board since 2010.

"On behalf of all members of our Board, I would like to congratulate Greig Woodring on his election to chairman of the International Insurance Society, and give the fullest recognition to the tremendous value he has added to our organszation over so many years," Sorensen said.

"His guidance and leadership will continue to enhance the IIS's role as the premier global organisation for the free exchange of values and ideas in the insurance industry."

Woodring said: “I am honored to have been selected to serve as chair of this esteemed organization. Today's fast-changing global economic environment requires the insurance industry to be actively engaged in a global exchange of ideas, and the IIS plays a critical enabling role. I look forward to working with other insurance leaders, regulators and scholars to further the IIS mission."

The International Insurance Society, founded in 1965, is the world's largest and most prestigious industry organisation, with members representing global insurance leaders, international regulatory authorities and worldwide insurance scholars from over 90 countries.
