Japanese reinsurer Toa Re expands European operations

Japan-based Toa Reinsurance Company (Toa Re) is set to commence underwriting life reinsurance business based in Zurich, Switzerland.

The company said that it is expanding its product offerings in Continental Europe. Toa Re Europe has been writing property and casualty reinsurance business since 2018.

Toa 21st Century Reinsurance Company (TTFC) is a wholly owned licensed reinsurance subsidiary of Toa Re since 2002 and assumes reinsurance from third party clients mainly in EMEA under the trading name Toa Re Europe.

Earlier in 2020, the reinsurer hired Timo Krause as head of Toa Re Europe life accident and health (L&H) from Swiss Re.

"Life reinsurance business is an important pillar of our group strategy and we are excited that we can expand our offering for the EMEA clients in Zurich," said Philippe Regazzoni, chief executive of Toa Re Europe.
