JLT Specialty poaches EY London tax director for M&A practice

JLT Specialty, a subsidiary of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group, has appointed Leon Steenkamp as head of tax insurance within its mergers & acquisitions (M&A) practice, which is part of the financial lines group.

Steenkamp has over 14 years of experience in advising on M&A and international taxation matters and joins from Ernst & Young (EY) London, where he was a tax director within their M&A tax team.

In his new role at JLT, Steenkamp will work with clients including private equity funds, companies, lawyers and accountants to arrange insurance for tax risks. He will focus on growing the tax insurance business in the UK market, and will support JLT’s M&A insurance teams in other geographies.

Ben Crabtree, head of M&A insurance for JLT Specialty, said: “Leon has a huge depth of understanding and perspective in the M&A tax space, having worked for funds and corporates in a variety of jurisdictions for well over a decade. We are incredibly lucky to have him, and excited about the help and guidance he will give our clients and the opportunities that this will bring in the tax insurance space.”

Steenkamp commented: “JLT’s M&A team has an excellent reputation and strong offering within the insurance marketplace. I’m delighted to be joining them, and help them grow and strengthen their offering to new and existing clients."
