Learn lessons from the military as major online underwriting event tackles cyber

Jonathan Rigby, chief cyber officer, Liberty Speciality Markets, and former air vice marshal of the Royal Air Force, will discuss lessons insurers can learn from the military in an exclusive keynote presentation at next month’s  Underwriting Innovation Europe event.

Cyber risk and innovation are the focus of Day three of the event, which is the largest online gathering of European underwriters. It takes place June 28 to 30 and is free for insurers to attend.

Rigby will discuss how the military protects its networks against cyber attacks, addressing what the insurance industry can learn from the military’s approach to existential and systemic risk and which military tactics could enhance the underwriter’s toolkit.

Attendees will discover how to identify silent cyber exposure across multiple and overlapping lines of business, prevent unexpected claims by quantifying cyber accumulations, and guard against legal and regulatory disputes with effective policy wording.

Over 1,000 underwriters are expected to attend the virtual conference, which spans three days and is free for insurers to attend. Run by  Intelligent Insurer, the leading digital hub for senior insurance executives, brokers and insurtechs, it features more than 40 speakers from across the insurance ecosystem: personal lines, commercial lines, brokers, and new entrants. Over 80 percent of those currently signed up for the event are from insurers.

Topics covered include the evolving cyber risk landscape and how to support clients to achieve resilience through product innovation; how to use COVID-19 to drive home changes in the cyber coverage space; how to find a path to profitable cyber underwriting through data and analytics; and new tactics for accurate cyber risk assessment.

Keynote speaker Judy Chow, director of product management at CyberCube, said: “You need only to open the news on any given day to be reminded of the explosion of cyber threats challenging businesses across the globe.

“Cyber insurance will play a critical role in enabling businesses of all shapes and sizes to survive and thrive. At CyberCube, we’re convinced that data and analytic insights are key in helping cyber insurance providers tackle the ever-changing cyber risk landscape and grow profitably.

“I look forward to sharing more at the Underwriting Innovation Europe conference about the ways that analytic insights can benefit cyber risk underwriting decisions.”
