Liberty Mutual Re swoops for AXA XL talent for US property treaty role

Liberty Mutual Re (LM Re), part of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group, has appointed Scott Mackie to the role of director of assumed reinsurance – property.

Most recently senior property underwriter for treaty with AXA XL, Mackie will be based in Stamford, Connecticut and will report to Richard Mairano, Liberty Mutual Re’s SVP property treaty.

Mackie has 18 years’ experience in the reinsurance industry. Following underwriting roles with Wellington Underwriting, Swiss Re and Montpelier, he joined XL Catlin in Boston as property facultative senior underwriter in 2010. Six years later, he moved to AXA XL in Stamford as property treaty senior underwriter.

In his new role, Mackie will be responsible for managing the underwriting of US property risk and pro-rata business.

Mairano said: “Liberty Mutual Re has grown strongly since its launch two years ago, hence the need to bring in new and talented people. In Scott, we’ve found an extremely capable reinsurance professional with strong market connections and a great track record.”
