Specialist re/insurance marketplace Lloyd's Insurance Company has appointed Jose Núñez as its country manager for Spain and Portugal (effective July 1), and general representative for Spain and Portugal (effective August 3, 2020).

Núñez will be based in Madrid and brings three decades of experience in the Iberian re/insurance markets, having worked in a number of senior roles at Gerling, Catlin and XL Catlin.

Most recently, Núñez held the position of national commercial director at Asegroup S.A. in Spain.

In his new role, Núñez will report to Mark Cooper, chief market development officer (Europe) and head of European branches, Lloyd’s Insurance Company (LIC).

Cooper said: “I am delighted to welcome Jose to the Lloyd’s Europe team. His background and extensive experience across underwriting, claims and distribution will be a great asset to LIC and the wider Lloyd’s market. In addition, his proven relationships with local broker and coverholder communities will help support and build on the strong reputation that the Lloyd’s Iberia team have forged.”

Núñez added: “I’m excited and proud to be representing Lloyd’s in the region and I will be working closely with our customers, distribution partners and wider stakeholders to deliver Lloyd’s strategy for the Iberian market and build on the strong foundations that have been laid. We have seen how the Lloyd’s market has really stepped up in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and our priority is to continue to support the Spanish and Portuguese market at this challenging time.”
