Lloyd’s insurer Probitas launches in Europe with ex-AIG/Allianz executive
Lloyd’s insurer Probitas 1492 has established a new service company to underwrite business in the European Economic Area (EEA), led by a senior hire who formerly held Benelux underwriting managerial roles at both AIG and Allianz.
Probitas 1492 (Europe) SRL/BV will be based in Brussels, with a branch office in London.
The Belgium office will be led by Koen Cambre (pictured), head of office and senior underwriter, who will work closely with the syndicate team in the UK.
Cambre has held senior underwriting roles at AIG and Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE. He was also a financial lines underwriter at Allianz GC, relationship manager at National Borg NV and asset management at Lombard International Insurances. Prior to that, Cambre was a tax consultant at KMPG specialising in corporate tax.
The new European subsidiary will be part of the Probitas Group of companies, regulated by the FSMA as a mandated underwriter and reinsurance broker, with authority to enter into contracts of re/insurance on behalf of Lloyd’s Europe in Belgium, in all other EEA jurisdictions via the freedom of services and the UK via Probitas 1492 (Europe) SRL/BV – UK branch in London.

I’m very proud that, following on from the approval of Probitas Managing Agency in 2021, we now have a fully approved European based underwriting agency, with a UK branch to serve London based brokers.

Cambre said: “I am delighted to have joined Probitas 1492 (Europe), and am looking forward to establishing the Brussels based team and working with my colleagues in the London office. I will be blending my European market expertise with our underwriting and analytics resources to deliver Lloyd’s insurance and reinsurance solutions to EEA brokers.”
