Markel International hires trade credit expert in Dubai

Markel International, the specialist insurer, has appointed Savita Mascarenhas as underwriter for its expanding trade credit operations in Dubai.

Mascarenhas joins Markel from National General Insurance (in partnership with Coface Emirates) in Dubai, where she held a role as an account representative, managing a client portfolio and working with the sales team and brokers across the region. Prior to this, for over six years Mascarenhas held an account executive position at Coface Emirates.

Mascarenhas will work alongside Leroy Almeida, senior underwriter and head of trade credit in the Middle East, and assistant underwriter, Michael Gardner, to develop business in the region and grow Markel’s Dubai trade credit and contract frustration portfolio.

Almeida said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Savita to our team and look forward to having another underwriter on the ground to help us extend our footprint and further develop business opportunities in the region.”

Ewa Rose, divisional managing director of trade credit, added: “This appointment reflects the wealth of growth opportunity that we are seeing in the Middle East and the extent of local interest we have had in our product offering.”

Markel International was awarded regulatory approval in Dubai in January this year.
