Marsh & McLennan appoints new general counsel of risk and insurance

Marsh & McLennan Companies (MMC) has appointed Susan Stone as the general counsel of company’s risk and insurance services (RIS) segment that includes Marsh and Guy Carpenter.

Stone succeeds James McNasby, who has served as general counsel of Marsh since 2007 and as general counsel of RIS since 2015. McNasby has been moved to another role within Marsh.

Stone will assume her new role from February 15, and report to the chairman of RIS Peter Zaffino, and executive vice president and general counsel of MMC Peter Beshar.

Stone joins from Sidley Austin, where she served as a member of the executive committee and co-head of the firm’s insurance practice for the past 21 years.

Zaffino said: "Susan’s significant insurance industry experience, strong management skills and track record of counseling Fortune 500 companies on complex legal issues make her ideally suited for this important leadership role."

Beshar added: "I am delighted to welcome Susan to the firm. She is widely respected for her legal and business acumen and will be a terrific addition to our Legal, Compliance and Public Affairs department."
