Mercer hires former Aetna VP

Mercer, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, has appointed Brian Marsella as a partner in its health & benefits business.

Based in Chicago, Marsella will serve as a lead consultant, building new client relationships and consulting with large-market clients in the Midwest. He will report to Nancy Coletto, partner and the health and benefits business leader for Chicago and Milwaukee.

Marsella joins Mercer with 24 years of experience in the healthcare industry. Most recently, he was vice president of large case sales and producer relations, product and marketing at Aetna.

Marsella spent 12 years at Aetna, where he held various roles of increasing responsibility, the majority of which focused on Aetna’s largest customers in the Midwest.

Prior to Aetna, he held various roles in underwriting, account management, and sales at Cigna for 12 years.

“We’re excited to welcome Brian to Mercer. Brian has a keen understanding of the most pressing issues facing our clients, grounded in his many years of industry experience,” said Coletto.

“His innovative ideas and practical solutions make him a great fit for our Health & Benefits team, and I know our large-market clients will agree that he’s a valuable asset for solving their most complex HR and benefits challenges.”
