MGAA appoints its first managing director

The Managing General Agents' Association (MGAA) has appointed Peter Staddon as its first managing director. His appointment will be effective from November 1, 2013.

Staddon will drive the association’s growth strategy including regional expansion, building its profile and increasing the membership base as well as its operational aspects, it said. He will work closely with the MGAA board, chairman Reg Brown and Jane Comerford, the association’s general manager, in supporting and representing members’ interests.

Commenting on the appointment, Reg Brown, chair of the MGAA, said: “Peter's appointment represents an important milestone in the development of the Association.

“Peter brings a perfect combination of skills backed by the strength of his market knowledge and an understanding of engaging with government and the regulator. These combined with his direct experience in driving the development of a well-recognised and well-respected insurance industry trade association, will be vital to the MGAA.

“One particularly exciting aspect is Peter’s direct experience in building and supporting regional structures which will be invaluable in supporting our expansion plans.”

Staddon is an experienced insurance industry practitioner having worked for over 40 years in the broking and delegated authority markets. He is the former   head of technical services at the British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA). He is an Associate Chartered Insurance Institute and Associate Chartered Management Institute and sits on a number of industry groups and committees including the Insurance Charities Board & Grants Committee.
