Miller mines Allianz for Asia Pacific energy & renewables build out

Specialist re/insurance broker  Miller has tapped a senior Allianz leader to build out a differentiated energy and renewables proposition in Asia Pacific as part of its wider growth strategy in the region.

Matt Hooker (Pictured) joins Miller as regional head of energy for Asia-Pacific. Based in Singapore, he will report to Nigel Cross, head of Miller Singapore and Martin Henderson, head of energy & marine, energy and transportation liability (METL).

Hooker’s appointment forms part of Miller’s wider growth strategy in the region and follows recent senior hires to the Singapore team, including Ron Whyte as head of strategic development and Nick King as head of marine.

Hooker is experienced in building business development and client servicing teams within the energy sector, particularly downstream, power, construction and renewables. He joins from Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, where he was Asia Pacific regional head of energy & construction, based in Singapore.

Prior to joining Allianz, Hooker had a distinguished broking career predominantly with Willis either side of five years at Marsh. He started in London in 1988 and following a spell working in Australia he relocated to Asia in 2000, undertaking various leadership roles throughout the region including mainland China, Hong Kong, and in Singapore since 2010.

Cross said: “I am thrilled to be welcoming Matt to the team. His depth of knowledge, breadth of relationships and entrepreneurial leadership will significantly contribute to Miller’s ambitious expansion plans in the region and growth in the Energy sector.”

Henderson added: “Matt’s appointment signifies our ongoing commitment to building out a differentiated energy and renewables proposition. I greatly look forward to working with him and the rest of the Singapore team as we continue to provide solutions to our clients on a global basis.”

Hooker commented: “It’s a privilege to join Miller and be part of the well-established Singapore team. I greatly look forward to helping accelerate growth across the region and working with a group of such passionate and highly skilled people.”
