Mitsui appoints QBE underwriter

Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group’s Lloyd’s operation has appointed Avraam Avraam, formerly of QBE, to the newly created role of class underwriter for the company’s growing healthcare class.

Based in London, Avraam will be responsible for the strategic direction and continued growth of the portfolio through product diversification and the further development of international distribution channels, with an increased focus on electronic trading in conjunction with the broking community.

Avraam joins from QBE and brings 24 years of insurance experience having begun his career as a broker. He subsequently moved to underwriting roles where, for the last 18 years, he has focused on the healthcare sector.

Andrew Dougall, underwriting manager, casualty, professional lines & A&H at MSIG at Lloyd’s, said: “Our healthcare portfolio has grown significantly over recent years and we see increasing opportunity to offer niche and tailored products at a time of global expansion in healthcare services. Avraam is a market leader in this specialist field and we are fortunate to have him on the team to take this important part of our business to the next stage in its development.”
