Munich Re US appoints former Hiscox exec Edelstein as specialty unit COO

Munich Reinsurance America, Munich Re's US property and casualty reinsurance subsidiary, has appointed former Hiscox executive Adam Edelstein as chief operating officer (COO) for Munich Re Specialty Insurance, a new commercial insurance unit in North America.

In his new role, Edelstein will spearhead the build out of an effective structure to support growth strategies and drive business operations efficiency to achieve the company’s business goals and objectives.

He will report to Mike Kerner, chief executive officer of Munich Re Specialty Insurance.

Edelstein is the owner of a New York-based boutique insurance-focused consultancy called Quintessential Solutions, where he recently lead the build and launch of a "revolutionary commercial insurance product" for a multinational company. Previously, he served as COO of specialty insurer Hiscox USA (2012-2017), based in New York City.

“We are very pleased to welcome Adam to this new leadership role. His experience in overseeing complex business operations, technology, and strategy are important assets as we unify and grow our primary specialty commercial insurance business," said Kerner. "Adam will work closely with me to provide leadership, management, and vision for Munich Re Specialty Insurance.”

Edelstein commented: “I am thrilled to join as we build the foundation for Munich Re Specialty Insurance’s current and future business. Our unwavering focus on clients and customers will be supported by the market-leading use of technology, data and analytics. Our strong team and existing footprint from San Francisco to Toronto and London, together with Munich Re’s balance sheet, position us to become a leader in North American commercial specialty insurance.”
