Optio snares new co-head of its A&H business from AmTrust Europe

Optio Group, the specialty MGA, appointed a new co-head to lead its accident and health (A&H) division that it launched in July 2020.

Optio has appointed Hywel Jones to lead the A&H business, alongside Darren Delande.

Jones has more than 30 years of industry experience and joins from AmTrust Europe where he was general manager of A&H since 2013. Before this he led the European life, A&H division as the commercial director and interim chief executive officer at CIGNA Insurance.

In his new role Jones reports to Paul Western, Optio’s group chief underwriting officer.

Western noted that Optio has been strategically investing in its specialty capability, and highlighted Jones’ “extensive background in the global A&H market, technological capability, and ability to develop innovative products in keeping with the evolving A&H landscape.”
