Pacific Life Re makes senior appointments in Asia

Pacific Life Re has made three senior appointments for its Asia operations, including a new hire from Allianz.

Wil Chong has been appointed to the role of general manager, Asia Markets, responsible for leading the Asia market heads in developing their businesses. With close to 30 years of experience in both the insurance and reinsurance industry spanning across Asia, Americas and Europe, he has held several executive positions in Korea, China and Southeast Asia, and is a former board chairman of the Asia Actuarial Congress. Most recently, he led the global life and health operations of Allianz and was responsible for a portfolio of over €500 million.

Joanne Yeo will move from her existing role to general manager, business services and operations, responsible for the financial reporting, R&D and operations teams of the Asia business unit.

With Yeo undertaking a new role, Ong Qian Hao has been promoted to head of pricing. He most recently served as director of pricing for the Korea and Japan markets where he supported the growth for new business volumes.

All three will report to Andrew Gill, managing director, Asia and Australia.

“The Asia operations of Pacific Life Re have grown from strength to strength in the last few years and these changes will further enhance the strength of our Asia leadership team," said Gill. "We remain committed to investing in our own people as well as sourcing the strongest complementing external talents to ensure that we continue to provide solutions to our clients that help them grow the value in their business, particularly through turbulent times.”
