Pioneer appoints specie underwriter

MGA Pioneer Underwriters (Pioneer) has appointed Philip Turner as a specie underwriter within the Marine Specialty team, effective December 2 2019. He will be based in London and will report to Andy Corton, head of marine specialty.

Turner was a managing director at Marsh and led its Specie team for over 20 years before joining Canopius as head of specie in 2015. He is a regular keynote speaker at specie conferences such as the European Armoured Car Conference, IFASIC Specie Conference and the Russian Bank and Specie Symposium.

Graeme Rayner, group director of underwriting at Pioneer, said: “Pioneer’s portfolio covers a number of diverse specialty lines and Philip will be a valuable addition to the team. He is highly respected in the specie market and will enhance and develop our offering across all the relevant risk classes including cash, precious metals, diamonds, fine art and crypto currency. We are delighted he’ll be joining us.”
