Quality people matter, say survey respondents


The importance of being able to speak to quality, experienced people and establishing long-term personal relationships were some of the biggest themes that shone through in the final week of our Global Survey.
Respondents told researchers at Intelligent Insurer that the reinsurance industry remains a people-orientated business and the quality and responsiveness of those they deal with is critical in forming their perception of companies.
The survey, which closed to new registrations at the end of June, has been collecting both quantitative and qualitative data on the strengths and attributes of industry players across a variety of categories. The results will be revealed at an exclusive, invitation-only ceremony at the Monte Carlo Rendez-Vous this year.
One respondent praised Hiscox for the quality of its client service. “They are very relationship driven with their clients and aren’t transactional like some others,” the respondent said. The same person also praised Swiss Re’s staff: “They are the best large insurer because of the range of services they offer, yet they are easy to work with,” they said.
Another executive interviewed for the survey described how the hands-on approach provided by Gen Re is often appreciated by cedants. “They are the only 100 per cent direct reinsurer. Every person that is an underwriter is a trained underwriter. They accept risks and they are a partner to the clients as opposed to moving the risk to someone else,” the respondent said.
The data collected in the research will be used to produce a unique research report on the industry and also establish winners at the awards ceremony to be held at the Fairmont Hotel in Monte Carlo on Sunday September 8.
