Sedgwick appoints new Asia COO in growth push

Technology-driven risk solutions provider Sedgwick has appointed Ben Chin as the company’s chief operating officer (COO) for Asia.

In his new role, Chin will be responsible for executing Sedgwick’s business and growth strategy and driving operational efficiency as the company continues to grow across the region.

Chin is assuming these responsibilities from Wayne Cheng, who has decided to retire and pursue other interests.

Having worked in insurance for more than 35 years, Chin has extensive experience in the claims industry that includes expertise in liability, marine, accident & health (A&H) and business interruption claims. He has held a variety of roles in accounting, auditing and loss adjusting and has strong capacity to personally oversee large and complex property claims. Chin also has experience in managing cultural integrations and organisational mergers across the Asia-Pacific region.

“Ben is a seasoned and trusted leader in our industry; his extensive network and experience in the Asian markets will drive strategic prioritization and deliver operational excellence to assist Sedgwick with our growth ambition in the region,” said James Ong, Sedgwick’s CEO for Asia. “Ben’s primary role as COO will be to ensure that Sedgwick operates at its full capacity and capabilities. I have tremendous confidence in Ben’s ability to align our strategic objectives with leading operational best practices to ensure that Sedgwick remains at the forefront of the industry.”

Ian Muress, CEO of Sedgwick International, commented: “We look forward to James and Ben fully leveraging their expertise and experience to strengthen our executive team as we continue to drive the future scaling of our business in Asia.”

Chin said: “I am very excited to join Sedgwick at this transformational time and to work with the world’s largest claims and risk solutions provider. I look forward to assisting James and working closely with the management team to elevate and drive Sedgwick’s operational goals across the region.”
