Sirius taps QBE Re “rising star” for casualty reinsurance

Bermuda-based Sirius Group has strengthened its casualty reinsurance platform established last year with the addition of Erik Soria as vice president, casualty.

Prior to joining Sirius Bermuda, Soria was most recently a vice president at QBE Re Bermuda, where he started their on island P&C portfolios in 2014 as well as established the inner workings of the Bermuda division.

During his tenure at QBE Re Bermuda, he was highlighted as a “ Rising Star” by Intelligent Insurer and a “ Talent Shining Through” by Bermuda:Re+ILS. He had previous stints with QBE Re in New York and operated as a reinsurance broker at both Willis Re and Aon Benfield.

In his new role, Soria will report directly to Sirius Bermuda CEO Warren Trace and will be the underwriter for the casualty portfolio.

"I have known Erik for nearly his entire career and am thrilled that we could bring onboard a person of such high caliber," said Trace. "He brings to Sirius an extensive casualty background with an invigorating energy that complements nicely with our group-wide efforts to expand into this line."

Sirius began to expand its writings in casualty reinsurance last year with the appointment of Robert McFadden in the New York office to lead the initiative.
