SiriusPoint makes raft of hires from top reinsurers for growth push

Global specialty re/insurer  SiriusPoint is looking to “significantly” increase its presence in the life reinsurance market and has made several senior hires from PartnerRe, Arch Re, Gen Re, and Swiss Re among others to help expand its global product offering.

The newly expanded team has been tasked to write life business worldwide and is led by Florian Boecker, head of life reinsurance.

It includes Lourens Fourie as senior client manager, Saskya Hafner-Cordova as client manager, Chris Reynolds as head of life pricing and Christina Cosma as pricing actuary.

Boecker joined SiriusPoint from PartnerRe, where he held a number of positions in life & health reinsurance, most recently chief solutions officer. Previously, he worked in various business development and technical management roles for Swiss Re, GE Insurance Solutions and Allianz.

Cosma previously worked for BIMA, Pacific Life Re and Vitality. She specialises in the microinsurance sector, pricing and product development and health and lifestyle engagement programmes.

Fourie has over 20 years’ experience in the life industry from client-facing roles working at insurers, reinsurers, and brokers across multiple markets. Prior to joining SiriusPoint, Fourie worked in PartnerRe’s life reinsurance as head of key accounts for Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Saskya joins from Gen Re, where she was pricing actuary and account executive, working with clients across Latin America.

Reynolds also comes from Partner Re’s life reinsurance business, where he held the position of chief pricing actuary. He has almost 20 years of actuarial and reinsurance experience in the Life insurance sector.

Finally, Stéphane Gaillard, consultant, underwriting, brings experience in client management in the life, accident & health sector in various European countries. He has previously worked in business development roles for Arch Re, Swiss Re and Munich Re.

Stuart Liddell, global president, life, accident & health at SiriusPoint, said: “I am delighted with the expert team that Florian has assembled to significantly increase SiriusPoint’s presence in the Life Reinsurance space. Our team now has experience in Life markets around the world, and we see potential to greatly broaden our product offerings and enhance the solutions available to our clients, responding to growing and developing demand.”

Florian commented: “We see real opportunity in the Life Reinsurance market and have responded to that by building an expert team based in our Zurich office.

“In particular, we are seeing growing demand for highly effective and flexible risk solutions for short-term life reinsurance for Group Life, Disability and Critical Illness business. This is a large, though historically niche market which is underserved and expected to grow significantly over the coming years.

“We believe we can improve the current reinsurance offerings in this market, offering clients solutions to their short-term Life Insurance needs, while achieving attractive risk-adjusted returns for our shareholders.”

He added: “The Covid-19 pandemic, for example, has impacted a number of large Group Life markets, and our clients and brokers are seeing significant scaling back of reinsurance capacity, increased rates and restrictions to covers. In this situation, we are in a position to offer fresh capacity and an innovative approach when our partners need it most.”
